Connecting to the Virtual Private Network (Windows)

With the help of the Virtual Private Network (VPN) it is possible to establish a secure connection to GÖNET from the GoeMobile network or the Internet.
The VPN connection will work on almost all Internet connections (DSL, ISDN, GMS, etc.), but it is possible that individual Internet providers block the VPN connection. Via the VPN connection it is possible to access resources that are otherwise only available within the GÖNET
  1. Start the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client if it is not already running.

  1. In the input field of the client enter vpn.gwdg.de - the input will be saved for future connections - and then click Connect.

  1. You will then be prompted to enter your Username and Password. Log in there with your e-mail address of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and the corresponding password. The e-mail address will also be saved for future connections. Confirm your entries by clicking OK.

  1. The successful establishment of the connection is indicated by a notification (if you have not deactivated the notifications). The status of the connection to the VPN can also be checked using the corresponding icon in the task bar.

  1. If the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client is already running, you can operate it by right-clicking on the corresponding icon in the taskbar. A click on Open AnyConnect opens the window from step 2, while a click on Connect opens the window from step 3. From there, follow the instructions.

  1. To disconnect from the VPN again, right-click on the icon in the taskbar. A click on Open AnyConnect first opens a window in which you can check the status of the current connection. To disconnect, click Disconnect. You can also click on Disconnect directly after right-clicking.
