Services for data storage at the Georg-August-University of Göttingen

Through the Georg-August-University of Göttingen or the Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbH Göttingen (GWDG), there are various services available to you that you can use as an alternative.

File service of the GWDG

The GWDG makes its file servers available to all institutes of the Georg-August-University of Göttingen. This gives every user with a valid account at the GWDG access to a personal drive (P-drive) with scalable capacity and daily data backup. For data that is to be processed with different users, a shared drive (W-drive) with appropriate access rights, scalable capacity and daily data backup can be set up. For more information about the GWDG file service, please visit https://www.gwdg.de/storage-services/file-service or contact the IT department of the Faculty of Humanities.

Archive service of the GWDG

For long-term storage of large amounts of data, the HSM archive service is available to any user with a valid account with the GWDG. The data is backed up regularly and can be retrieved at any time. In addition, the GWDG offers interfaces for archiving structured data sets whose metadata should remain searchable and easy to find even when archived. For more information, please visit https://www.gwdg.de/storage-services/data-archiving or contact the IT department of the Faculty of Humanities.

ownCloud of the GWDG

The cloud service ownCloud is available to all members of the Max Planck Society and the University of Göttingen, who can log on to the GWDG's customer portal or via Shibboleth using DFN-AAI. With ownCloud, files can also be shared with external users. Via a client, your files can also be synchronized with an IT system in order to use them offline, for example. The service uses the mass storage of the GWDG. To use it in a web browser, simply go to https://owncloud.gwdg.de/.
